The Thailand Yacht Show, traditionally held
annually in Phuket, was held for the first time at Ocean Marina in
Jomtien, Pattaya from 9-12 June 2022.
Verventia, the event's organiser, has cut the
Thailand Yacht Show in two parts, with the Pattaya component being
the first and the second to take place later in the year in
Phuket.
Simpson Marine had the largest presence at the
show with nine yachts, two of which were making their regional
premieres - Fairline Squadron 68 and Aquila 28 Molokai. The
company also used TYS to launch a sailing academy in Phuket.
Princess
Yachts, Azimut, V Yachts Asia and other well known brands also had a
presence at the show.
In addition to the luxury yachts one traditionally
sees, there were a range of
smaller boats, a good variety of watersport toys - including some
electric surfboards, e-boats and sea scooters, as well as some
classic cars.
According to Verventia, 5 yachts were sold during
TYS Pattaya, with the most expensive - Mastermind - being
worth approximately THB 180 million (around US$ 5.1 million). A
local BMW dealer also reported selling 6 cars during the event.
Steven Howard of TravelNewsAsia.com sat down with
some of the exhibitors to ask them what they hoped to get out of
the event and to learn more about their business here in
Thailand.
