Will MYAirline Become Your Airline? Exclusive
4K DCI Video Interview with Rayner Teo, CEO
(22/07/23)
Launching a new low cost airline and working to
ensure its continued success is never going to be easy. Doing that in
the home country of one of the world's most successful, respected
and well established LCCs, with numerous other strong competitors
to fight against for passengers - including the national carrier,
is an even more daunting challenge, to say the least.
But, that is exactly what MYAirline is trying to
do. The Malaysian LCC's first flight flew from klia2 to Kuching in
Sarawak, Malaysia on 1 December 2022. By the 26th June 2023,
MYAirline had already carried its one millionth passenger and that
was only with a limited number of domestic routes.
In the past few days, the airline launched its
first international flights operating services between Kuala
Lumpur and not only Suvarnabhumi (BKK), but also Bangkok's other
main international gateway, Don Mueang Airport (DMK).
To learn more about the airline and why it chose to
launch its very first two international flights to two airports that
predominantly serve the same capital city, instead of a different
city in Thailand or even a different country in the region, Steven
Howard sat down with Rayner Teo, the airline's CEO, in Bangkok on 5 July.
In this interview, you will learn why MYAirline
chose to launch almost simultaneous services to BKK and DMK rather
than operate just one service to Bangkok and another to a
different airport such as U-Tapao (UTP) which better serves the
cities of Pattaya and Si Racha as well as the many other areas
along the eastern seaboard.
We also discuss MYAirline's phases of growth,
which other cities it is planning to launch services to, how many
aircraft the company plans to have by the end of the year, and
whether those planes are being purchased or wet or dry leased.
We also discuss recruitment and what challenges
that poses, whether MYAirline
will join the Asia Pacific Airlines Association (AAPA), the carrier's
plans for cargo and whether dedicated cargo services using
freighters is something the airline is considering.
Rayner also shares his thoughts on medium and
long-haul low cost carrier services, how MYAirline is trying to
differentiate itself in the market place, and why he believes that
there is room in such a saturated market for MYAirline to not only
be successful but to also flourish as per their objectives. All
that and much, much more in the video and podcast below.
