Austrian Wine in Thailand 2022 - Interview with
Günther Sucher, Commercial Counsellor
(14 Feb 2022)
Austria holds an annual wine tasting event in
Bangkok to promote the different varieties available to
hotels, importers, restaurants and others in the hospitality
industry.
In 2022, that event will take place at the SO/
Bangkok hotel on 22 February.
To learn more about this year's
Austrian Wine Tasting event, Steven Howard of Travel News Asia
spoke to Günther Sucher, the Austrian Commercial Counsellor for
Thailand.
In this exclusive interview, filmed over the
internet on 11 February 2022, Günther tells us about the Austrian
Wine Masterclass that takes place before the wine tasting, how
many will attend that, how many are expected at the wine tasting,
what those lucky enough to get an invitation can expect to taste
and learn, and how many wineries and wines will be showcased.
We also discuss how COVID19 has affected Austria's
wine exports to Thailand and other countries, whether the European
country surpassed its annual export target of 200 million Euros
last year after such a great H1 in 2021, and what its targets for
Thailand are for 2022.
Steven also asks how Austria uses technology to
sell and promote its wines, whether there are any accreditations
or certifications available to sommeliers here in Thailand, and
what trends Austria is seeing in the types of wine being purchased
in the Kingdom.
This is Steven's second interview with Günther Sucher, the first took place in person in 2019 and can be
seen
here.

Editor's note:
As the above video interview was conducted over the internet, I
would like to apologise that the audio and visual quality are not
up to the same HD/UHD quality that they normally would be. Hopefully it won't be too
long until we are once again conducting exclusive video interviews
in person, but for now we have to make do with what we have. Thank
you.
